Clear water Brian?
I am planning to head that way this afternoon. Looking to get on the water about 6 pm. I have only fished the lake once for crappie and almost got skunked the end of may. I have gps on my boat and lake maps. Where would be the best place for me to start.
I finally gave in and joined the crappie in the water....until I decided it was even too hot to swim!.....I can't wait till the december bite....come on winter!
Yes pretty clear, more then a foot visibility.
Welcome Longtown Dave, We are in your area over here in Sportmans edition.
EB or anyone else...are the Crappie still on the wood up in the creeks?
Anyone heard from EB? I been trying to call him for over a week and he hasn't posted on here in almost 4 weeks. I know football has started now but just wondering about him.
Odie
Odie that is how it is with him once school starts you can almost never get ahold of him but he will call in due time I am sure you been catchin them !!
Saturday EB and I cleaned 19 off the trees in Gaines......He has been a little busy lately
Andy
Thanks for the report Andy. I was pretty sure they were still there, just needed a confirmation! :)
Now if I could only get the time to go after 'em!
A neighbor of mine cleaned 41 off the timber today. All were over 10". He said it was hot an had to really work hard for what he came in with.
I fished down below the dam this morning and had only one bite, no catches. Fished later at the boat ramp here at Arrowhead estates and didn't get a nibble. The guys fishing for catfish at the dam were catching a few, but no one was catching any crappie.
Its still a little too hot in my opinion. But since it was an almost "cool" morning, I was able to get in a couple of hours of fishing and that's better than nothing.
I have no idea of what the water temp is currently, couldn't even guess.
pretty much stopped crappie fishing for now...waiting on fall and winter before heading out again....I have been catching some nice 2 to 4 pound channel cats off of my boat dock on stink bait...14 feet of water....using magic bait premo blood...working pretty good!
catfish no longer liking my stinkbait...fishing with liver now
Get ready, these cooler overnight temps will pull schools of shad into the shallow coves and the crappie will follow. Last year I started catching them Sept.12 and it lasted well into October.
Anyone got any tips for fishing after this cold front...looking to go out this evening.
I will be going to Hickory Point around 5pm
woohoo...fall is here...won't be long and we'll be catching crappie and listening to the football game....well...at least some of us...finally got my season tickets this year!!!!!!..hope crappie bite on mondays!
Thanks scott for the advice on the turkey franks...i will take some this weekend with me and give them a try!
Hickory point yeilded 0 fish!!
I fish points with dropoffs leading into the cove early am. and late pm. they wont hit jigs very good under floats, you have to cast out and keep the jigs moving. Spider riggin and side pulling should work good too.
I hit (3) different areas here on Lake Eufaula yesterday without any luck catching crappie. I did land a pretty nice little bass, he hit a Yum beavertail jig on the retrieve.
Still too hot for the crappie unless you go out in a boat and find them deep.
It'll start picking up towards the end of September, always does.:D
Thanks for the report Coyote, The baitfish have been running along the bank by our house. Were you guy's dippin jigs in a creek or in a cove?
We were dipping 2" beavertails in a creek where the wind was blowing up the creek onto a mud flat. Had a little trouble with the boat getting stuck in the mud or on top of stumps or laydowns that could'nt be seen because water visibilty was only about 2". I was actually trying to fish the edge of the channel where the water was about 12 to 8ft deep but my son-in-law kept catching fish from the back of the boat up in that shallow water. Darn kid has no idea where the fish are supposed to be. After he pulled the second pig out of 18" of water I decided he knew more than I did.:o
Good report and I'm happy to be mistaken about the crappie biting in shallow water. Makes me want to declare a jihad against em! Thanks for the report and pic coyote.:D
Has anybody been out fishing the gentle giant lately? I haven't seen much action on this thread.
Sorry to say that I haven't. Between doing honey-do's around the house and getting ready for hunting season, I've neglected my Crappie fishing. I hope to rectify that soon! This time of year is rough on me. I'm constantly trying to make the decision; should I go hunting or fishing...hunting or fishing...hunting or fishing...arrrrgh!
I bet if you give Eufaula Boy or Todd H. a call they can turn you on to the fish!
Fished Sat and it was good around crowder/blocker 20fow caught 20 med size from 11-2 using minnows and jigs
Anybody know what surface temps are running now?
Just got back from Eufaula after 2 days of fishing and cleaned 64 nice size crappie largest just about 1 1/2 lbs. , they were all caught between 10 am and 3 pm in 12 foot of water near the bottom using mostly minnows and chart. beavertails under my boat dock long town area , dont know if the bite is on in the timber because I dropped a cylinder on my ranger the last time down but my guess is that they are there.
I fished the banks of our cove this morning with no luck on the east side, except sandbass. I watched several feeding fish along the shoreline on the opposite side with lots of shad schools. Going back in the morning to try in deeper water and some of my brush structures in search of crappie.
Skunked this Sunday, not a bite nor a nibble. Fished 3 different locations with the same results, nothing. Using minnows on crappie rigs and although it was a nice day, it was not a productive day with fishing. Couple of guys pulled up into the cove where I was and they anchored out, fished for around an hour, then pulled up and went home. They said they could see them on the fishfinder, but no bites.
I cant find any fish in our cove deep, all shallow and all sanbass....LOL! But fun to catch, tons of shad bumping my line.
Fished off my dock in Bixby cove/Porum area 2 weekends ago... cleaned 12 decent crappie but no monsters.
am headed back down this weekend to try again,, and sad to say am also putting the boat up for the winter :(
Keep me posted of crappie activity in the porum part of the lake!
