[QUOTE=Bigskyfisherman;Switched to fishing cats with fresh shad and got about 45 bites (but only 6 cats) Felt more like small sand bass bites most of the time. Other guys caught the cats early in the morning, and Charles got a hybrid. The big excitement of the day came when a guy hooked a BIG saugeye that got tangled up with three other lines, which led to a very unhappy ending (except for the saugeye).

A few years ago we were fishing humps on CB using large live shad to catch hybrids but our shad kept getting nibbled to death by something we couldn't hook. When we switched to smaller shad we quickly began to catch saugeye that ran about 5 lbs.. My partner was disgusted as he only fishes for fish with stripes but I spent the rest of the day looking for the smallest shad in the tank! By the way- you left me hanging a little as to the saugeyes fate. Was it happy because it escaped or was the fisherman happy cause he got to give him a grease bath?
