Fished Carl Blackwell last night with a CoWorker who had caught one crappie in his life. It was a great night to get a newbie on the water. We fished from around 7pm to 830pm and brought home 54. Had to keep jig in approx 2.5 to 3' of water to get bit. Used a 1/16 jig from Slab Jiggies that was Pink and Yellow and sprayed SlabSlobber on it about every 5 casts. A lot of the females are still full of eggs. Some are very loose ready to let go and some were still pretty firm. Water temp was right at 71 degrees, light winds and about 8 inches of visibility. I definitly think we have a new crappie fisherman among us now, he was asking about gear, where he can get it and when we can go again!!! Name: Sunset.jpg

Nice report, swollen. We'd have come up there last night, but we didn't want to miss the closeout by the Thunder. It was a tough call, because those crappie were calling.

Fished about 6:00-10:00. Tons of dinks, but only three that would make 10 inches. Fished 10 inches to three feet, off the jetties and back in the bay. Still have eggs. Visited with some people who had been fishing all day and got about fifteen good-sized fish early this morning.

Went this evening, had the kids so i didn't fish much but I did catch 3. The water is super low and wasn't much fun putting the boat in. Had to back the truck so far that I stepped out of the drivers door into a foot plus of water.

Papascruggs, in the last 10 days when I have fished it, I have been fishing from a boat along the dam casting parallel to the rocks in about 2 to 3 foot of water. I have not fished any of the coves lately or any of the jetties (usually tons of bank fisherman already there).
The lake can get pretty rough when the wind picks up, but there are always a few coves that can be fished and each cove has brush piles or standing timber in them, you just have to find them.
I usually go in the evening, so not sure how morning or mid day is, but I know that in 7pm to 840pm range, the fishing has been fantastic. Single jig (coated with SlabSlobber) cast along the rocks and bring back slow with a little twitch of rod tip here and there and they have been hammering it.
I am going to try and link up with BigSkyFisherman this week and go get some form him to take home. 3 t-ball games this week is going to limit my fishing time but gonna try.

Took the fam down to Blackwell to fish Saturday afternoon, camp over night, and play in Stillwater Sunday. Have never fished the lake from a boat before, but used to bank fish and duck hunt it a bit in college. Took some advice found here and fished a few coves and along the dam using minnows I got from the on-site lake store. Was able to pick up a couple here and there but nothing of any size. Sandbass were plentiful. Finally ended up in the northeast-most creek where there was a bunch of standing timber along a decent creek channel. Caught nice female on 1st cast but lost her at the boat. Got the boys bobbers out thinking I'd found 'the spot' after that first cast. We caught 8 total over two hours. My 5 year old did have some excitement when his drag suddenly started singing and he couldn't get his rod tip up. He gave me that look like he was in trouble and since I didn't want him going in or anything, I grabbed the rod and tightened the drag; 8lb test wasn't enough to slow whatever it was down and it took too much line out too fast and got wrapped up on a stump. Pop. Neither of the boys were impressed and the 5 yr old accused me of 'horsing him'. Where had he heard that before?
Tent camped at HPELS campground and was able to beach the boat over night right in front of the campground for a quick get away in the morning. Went back to the NE creek the next morning but this time went all the way to the back to about 3 fow. The missus wasn't having any o'dark:30 stuff so I got up and cooked bacon with the boys. We got to the spot about 0800 after trying the dam for a bit and catching a couple small males. We ended up catching 6 dinks and missing as many more by the time we had to leave about 10. We hit Eskimo Joe's for lunch on the way through Stilly, and me and the wife bored the boys pointing out the old haunts and telling war stories. Was a good trip and been looking for an excuse to try a new spot and camp out; didn't slay them, but we'll be making that trip again.
