DrNip has the idea...Brian has taught me the technique and it works well. You can fish all those baits and hooks thru most wood without losing a hook or bait. But to become efficent with any technique you have to fish it...As EB will tell you a Kentucky Rig fishes this way much better for us than a Capps and Coleman.....first off having a 5/8 oz sinker on the bottom allows you to bounce the snagged hook off a limb making it wood freindly. Both rigs the Kentucky and Capps and Coleman have their places in Crappie Fishing and each catch fish, it just comes down to your personal preference and technique you are comfortable in fishing....Again I will fish them both depending on what structure I am fishing and EB will tell you the same I believe.....Ranger

Ranger is correct I have showed him this technique in action, the only thing I have to add would be the thickness of the brush. If it is big stuff such as big trees it works great, if it is smaller limb stuff its becomes more difficult. We use hooks and sinkers, no pre-tied rigs. The key is to tie your hooks only one inch from the main line, this keeps the baits verticle. The deeper we fish the heavier the sinker. 2-4ft-1/4, 6-12ft-1/2,12-20-3/4, 20+1ounce. Its funny when I guide this technique I will not let you grap the pole until the pole is hung so bad the tip is in the water, the reason is the fish sometimes get them unhung for you! EB

Great info Brian. Thanks. Looks like I need to buy some more weights. All I have is a bunch of half ounce.

I've done my homework on it and when momma lets me get my boat next year I'll be putting it to use! I read awhile back and have been putting it to use that when you get hung up, don't go yanking the pole to free the line. This has the potential of scaring the fish. I can only imagine what this does to the brush pile in the water. Simply pull the line until it either unhangs the hook or snaps the line.

Fished the upper end today covering water with the rack's and poles out using 6. Ended up with 19 after the lightning and rain tailed off. Fish came from 2' to 10' DOW. Was fishing the rigging poles 5' to 7' deep in water that was 7' to 10' deep. Caught a few pitching cork and minnow rigs in shallow water also. Was tipping beavers with minnows under a cork, and then just a straight minnow. WT was 74 degrees today...Ranger

Ciller we use two hooks per line, 8 poles 16 baits in the water! The basic three rigs are Kentucky Minnow or jig rigs, tandem jig rig, and the Capps and Coleman minnow rig. Remember that crappie like slow sutle movement, don't go too fast. Especially when you are around brush piles. EB
