When Fishing only a few feet under a bobber, a fixed bobber is the way to go. Don’t get me wrong, nothing wrong with a slip bobber. I love them. I use them more when Fishing 4+ feet or so under bobber[emoji1303]

I like a fixed bobber and usually switch to a 10' rod when fishing the deep stuff.
Just sayin
I’ve got a 12 ft graphite mr crappie rod that I can sling a jig a mile with even fishing 8ft deep. And I can make that dirty girl dance just how they like it from a distance. Slip bobber ain’t about that action like a fixed float.[emoji41]

It really, really sucks down here. My usual lake finally got down to pool about 10 days ago when I left to go to Alabama, of course it jumped 6' before I got home and was almost back down to pool again and now we're getting these storms. Since everything is so saturated it doesn't take much to cause a flood again and right now it's just wave after wave of downpours. I'd be surprised if East Fork doesn't go up 20' again. There are a few spillway lakes down here but even if they aren't flooded, they are mud holes.
On a happy note we did get a few fish in Alabama last week. Even down there the bite was pretty tough from all the fronts but on the last day the sun came out, temps began to rise and my bald spot was finally warm for an afternoon.
I look at those pics you guys post and am just amazed at the water color, I haven't seen anything that clear since before the lakes iced up in early January.
The gin clear water is kinda our nemesis up here some lakes are so clear you can see the bottom in nearly 20 fow. The zebra mussels they have changed the way I fished certain lakes over the past 10 years I’m always looking for dirty water or very weedy areas. The lakes with the clearest water the fish don’t hold to the wood like they used to they stay Literally up up in the thickest weeds they can find. There have been some benefits to the zebras our inland perch populations have exploded and our redears grow to impressive size feasting on the zebras.
Like Bigeyurk25 said if you ever get up fishing this way give a shout Id be glad to show you around around our strange local lakes. Plus I always enjoy learning new stuff from other fishermen from different areas seems as tho there’s always a different style or presentation I can pickup from others that I haven’t seen locally.
If you ever do make it up here I’ll warn ya in advance some guys here can attest to this. I’m disorganized clumsy and I cuss like a sailor but I’m fun to watch and I’ll have your cheeks hurting from laughing at me all day!
Good luck in the SW hopefully spring shows you guys a little mercy down there. If not it will be a good year for hunting mushrooms if your into that.

Looks like I’m gonna be working in the hurricane like winds today oh joy.[emoji19] If I were to get out today Id find a shallow bay on a western shoreline and tuck in out of this crazy wind. If anyone makes it out today best of luck don’t let some tree fall on ya out in this wind!

Change in plans just got a call saying they were calling today for safety reasons due to the high winds. Seems as tho they always wait till I’ve had several cups of coffee and started my truck before making a decision. Guess I’ll be battling the wind somewhere at a Local lake today.[emoji33][emoji41]

"The gin clear water is kinda our nemesis up here some lakes are so clear you can see the bottom in nearly 20 fow."
That would be the catch 22, it would be a rare time to ever see the bottom in more than a couple of feet of water and even at that it wouldn't be super clear.
It's funny you mentioned perch. I'm not sure where they have come from but there are a few lakes around here that we've been catching a few perch in lately. One lake I've fished for over 40 years and just in the last 4/5 years I've seen a few caught. Another lake I fish the population is a little better, a friend and I caught a dozen at this lake one day and we were targeting them
With the zebras making the water clear allowing the weeds to grow thick even in 15+ fow providing excellent spawning cover for the perch to drape their eggs and providing an abundance for food for the perch with the massive amount of gizzard Shad that are thriving in those deep weeds it’s the perfect storm for perch and shell crackers. It’s to the point where I can target jumbo perch 10 mins from home rather than go to Lake Erie lots of sorting but a couple lakes around here regularly produce 10inch plus perch in numbers. Once you locate a pod of larger ones if you have the time you can follow them from the weedy flats in 14 fow in the summer to there deep 20 plus fow water hideouts in the winter.

I agree 100%. I love the clear lakes for fishing. When it comes to crappie on the other hand, I do my damage in the dirty water lakes. Get nice crappie in the MWC lakes. Do my perch and walleye fishing up at Chautaqua lake.

It’s like an arctic hurricane out here but we’re doing it up lots of shorts and gills but getting some keepers. I called my buddy after I located them and talked him into freezing with me.

God Bless you man, you are def insane today. Went out for lunch and absolutely froze, and thought to myself damn Dave is catching fish in this crap.
Just called it quits at 10 till 2. Had all of the wind and cold my hands could handle for today caught around 30 crappie and probably 50 gills kept 12 crappie. It was nasty out there all fish came on the 1/80th jig and gulp. Today just go’s to show the fish gotta eat every day regardless of weather conditions.Attachment 297070Attachment 297071Attachment 297072Attachment 297073

I'm planning on being out this coming weekend. Back to w&!k tomorrow. Probably 10 - 12 hour days till the weekend because of taking a few days off. Hope I can find some fish to cooperate. If any of you all want, hit me with a call, text or pm. I'm defiantly going somewhere, even if it's wrong.

This weather sucks!!! Looks like I’ll be working today unless I get a call here soon canceling which I don’t see happening .
Good luck to anyone heading out today! Best advice I got is to use the smallest jigs you can find and fish them shallow 12inches to 3ft deep in 3-5fow. I really hope this weather makes a turn towards spring and away from this winter nonsense!

Well I see my yard is covered in snow again [emoji19]. This is getting a little ridiculous.... Yesterday my boss tried to get me to work today but I just laughed at him. My son was supposed to have baseball today but that’s canceled now lol. Attachment 297385
I’ve told the company over and over if you want me to work it’s weekdays only! Unless I choose to work a weekend to finish a project or something which doesn’t happen often.[emoji57] I feel bad for the guys that got stuck with mandatory working today but hey if they don’t know how to say no it’s not my problem.
Don’t know if I’ll make it out fishing today I’ve got a few things to do around the house & a binder full of crap to go through for an upcoming work project that I won’t be working weekends on either [emoji23]. Attachment 297386
Best of luck to whoever makes it out today! If I get out I’ll post up a report.

That binder of work makes me want to throw up. Sorry you had to bring your work home with you. This weather is getting a little ridiculous. I'm going somewhere today, even if it's wrong. Yesterday after work was a bust so I've already eliminated two places to go. Going to check the weather conditions out for the day and try to make the best decision I can!

I didn’t have to bring my work home I brought it because I like to know what they have planned for me. And I can highlight all their ideas that aren’t going to work & let them know what ain’t happening [emoji4]
