Fished tonight with Rusty "Tin Guppy" for a couple hours after work....VERY GOOD time!
Used my new SUPER EXTRA GLITTER plastics and they were really impressive...I was looking for a real shad color and these things match the shad iridescence in the sun....while the sun was out the Crappie just torn these things up! Then when the sun went down, we broke out the glow plastics and caught a few more...I feel comfortable that I am ready for the year!
THE BEST PART OF THE NIGHT, was watching my buddy Rusty....he has all new equipment, New Pole, New Reel, Seaguar Smackdown Braid, same plastics...and he unleashed a hurtin' on a bunch of Crappie....he made me so proud...no professional hook-sets, just a little twitch of the wrist...pretty darn impressive for someone that used Mono all his life and is new to swimmers...I think I've got him hooked!
Crappie were deep and cold, but they were smackin' the swimmers...more surprising was the lack of size, biggest was about 10.5, but they were still smacking and fighting all the way in. Steady retrieve was the ticket, but when the bite slowed, all you had to do was lift or twitch and it brought them back to life.
Went to the Marina to eat...nothing was open, but the Marina was PACKED...didn't see anyone catch anything but an aquarium fish...and they didn't even know it was a Crappie!
To Bad that no food or bait shop was open...someone missed out on a lot of money!
