Fished tonight with Rusty "Tin Guppy" for a couple hours after work....VERY GOOD time!
Used my new SUPER EXTRA GLITTER plastics and they were really impressive...I was looking for a real shad color and these things match the shad iridescence in the sun....while the sun was out the Crappie just torn these things up! Then when the sun went down, we broke out the glow plastics and caught a few more...I feel comfortable that I am ready for the year!:)
THE BEST PART OF THE NIGHT, was watching my buddy Rusty....he has all new equipment, New Pole, New Reel, Seaguar Smackdown Braid, same plastics...and he unleashed a hurtin' on a bunch of Crappie....he made me so proud...no professional hook-sets, just a little twitch of the wrist...pretty darn impressive for someone that used Mono all his life and is new to swimmers...I think I've got him hooked!
Crappie were deep and cold, but they were smackin' the swimmers...more surprising was the lack of size, biggest was about 10.5, but they were still smacking and fighting all the way in. Steady retrieve was the ticket, but when the bite slowed, all you had to do was lift or twitch and it brought them back to life.
Went to the Marina to eat...nothing was open, but the Marina was PACKED...didn't see anyone catch anything but an aquarium fish...and they didn't even know it was a Crappie!
To Bad that no food or bait shop was open...someone missed out on a lot of money!
Closing at 7PM won`t help his business either...
It`s not just the cash; the State wants someone with ACTUAL small business MANAGEMENT experience, and ironically with strong restraunt skills...which is why am looking for a SERIOUS partner with some small business credentials. With a modest PC can handle payroll, inventory and sales records as well as offer Wi-Fi and possibly Internet. Am HARD CORE serious about putting in 14 hr days in from May 1st to Labor Day, being open from 6AM to 10PM during those dates as well as 6AM to 8PM from Mar 15th to Memorial Day and from past Labor Day to Oct 15th, and when the weather is decent over the winter months for ice fishing... just need to find that 1 SERIOUS person ! btw, WILL continue the `splashes` by sponsoring and aiding and abetting them on a considerably greater scale than we were previously able to afford to...(EVIL laughter sound effect here...) They will go in like rain drops...
The restrooms are now unlocked, stoped and had a hot dog at Marina and the bait shop was open and they had minnows, great weather to be out on CJ, we pushed minnows and had 14 missed a ton!
Water Temp yesterday was 57 to 60 at the surface...fish pulled from the deep were still cold.
The lake will not lose much heat at night and will build during the day...If the lake gets some rain tonight plus the heat, I imagine Wednesday will be the start to some good action!
Good Fishing Boys! :):):)
Another fun day...still no size on Crappie yet...still deep and cold.
Shad spawning, turning females upside down on the rocks.
X-Xtra Glitter still working Great when the sun is out.
Went back out to eat with Dale at 4:30pm..Marina Restaurant was closed....I'm done with them....went to The Meadows instead...great meal and she has her World Famous Key Lime Pie stocked again!
She will continue to get my money, and they are close to CJ!
Fished for a couple of hours today from 9 to 11 something. Started at the marina and caught 4 dinks then moved to the dam. Caught 6 off the dam with two over 12", one over 10" and the rest dinks. Should be game on in another week or two. Swimmers were the bait of choice. Very windy today.... too windy IMO.
