I have often wondered why you couldn’t just wire around the sensor and get it to work. If it is spliced into power wire maybe it has something to do with resistance to turn charger off and on. I know there has to be a way to repair because I have seen repaired ones on eBay. Guy up in Wisconsin sells them once in a while and says (when you get it the wires will be spliced and don’t be alarmed when you receive it)
This is the one I bought. I thought the same thing about the sensor needs to be as close to the battery as possible. I did cut the old sensor off and spliced the new cable before the old sensor position.

I did save the old sensor. I may try your suggestion and take it to an electronics shop to see if it can be repaired.
