Ok, I got two answers. "Blind" and "growing popularity". That makes as much sense as the polers wanting the trollers poles limited because they are jealous of their catch.
Assistant Chief Larry Pugh writes "We are very aware of how good the Sardis crappie fishery is right now." He goes on to say "On Sardis, lowering the minimum size was expected to increase fishing pressure on the lake. The reductions in bag and pole limits were to prevent that increased pressure from harvesting too many fish."
To me, common sense dictates, that the pole limit would have been included in The Notice of Intent we met on 01/31/13 to discuss. Instead of being back doored through the MDWFP Commission eleven days later.

Well Sardis was one of the best bass lakes around. Then catch and release become popular and down goes fish size. There are not near the amount of folks bass fishing at Sardis as they were back in the 80sand 90s. There use to endless amounts of bass tournaments back then. Not near as many now and quality of bass has fallen. To many fish equal smaller fish.

Biggest crappie to date is 3 lb 9 oz at grenada in 1988. Still hangs on my wall.
The folks fishing with 5 poles catch 15 fish limit. The very same folks that will now have to fish with 3 poles. But your not going tell me these people are not still going home with 15 fish. 15 is 15 even if you were allowed to use dynamite. Pole limits make no sense.

Nobody is jealous. It's not the polers against the trollers. It's trying to protect the fishery. How would you set the regulations?Because keeping them the way they were will eventually led to a decline. And thinking there will always be plenty of fish is the wrong way to think.

Really? Show me. The data they brought to the meeting at Enid show 23 times more crappie in the fishery in 2012 than 2007. By their own words they think Sardis is in good shape. I would be the first to lead the charge if they did. But I do disagree with managing a fishery based on perception.
Speaking of pole limits. In 2007 Sardis went to a 5 pole limit, Grenada 3. Grenada produces more 3 pound fish. But Sardis produces way more stringers of pound and a half fish. How are them pole limits working out for you?

Your right I'm stupid, sorry. The data is Always right.im gonna stop worrying about this and catch as many as the law says I can everyday.

Three thoughts on this:
1) If you let me fish with as many poles as I like, I'll usually get a limit faster. Common sense tells me that I'll be more likely to get a limit if I can fish with as many poles as I like. When I see pontoons with 25 poles and a bunch of people on them, I notice this. I call them fish harvesting machines.
2) I believe the "single poling locals" hope to keep us off "their lakes" by limiting or banning trolling. I will not drive to Sardis or Enid or Grenada from Memphis a couple of times each week if I cannot troll. It's expensive and I'll not do it if I don't think I'll catch a bunch of fish and enjoy it.
3) While ya'll were argueing about this yesterday afternoon, my son and I were hammering the crappie (after the rain yesterday). The bite was red hot after 5pm. Don't tell the local guys but I was using as many poles as I could. We were catching them so fast we were just throwing them in the bottom of the boat. Gatthered them up and put them in the cooler when we started rolling up our poles.
