The worst thing you could ever do for a water pump... Is crank your outboard out of water dry.. The water works as a lubricant. If you start it dry the friction will burn the ends off of your impellers. It only takes a minute. I see it all the time people cranking their engines before they put it in the lake. Wet is good... Dry is bad... Just like...well I best not!!!

Hahaha! Sardis ramp last week: I'm strapping down the boat when I hear a helicopter comeing...nope, it was a guy pulling up the ramp with his motor running and in gear!
