I have a 4 stroke mercury 25 hp motor. I run it weekly. A few weekends ago I noticed it quit peeing and the alarm turned on. I let it cool down then trailered it. Put it in the garage this past weekend and checked the hose that runs out of the motor and it was not stopped up. I could blow air through it. I am not a motor guy and do not know what else to do. I really do not want to take it in the boat shop because they charge me a couple hundred bucks every time and don't ever fix what I am having problems with. They are pros at finding other things to work on. Could someone give me a few tips on what to do. I don't know what any of the motor parts are called so you might to explain parts in shapes and colors, ha. Thanks.

Probably needs to have the impellor in the water pump replaced.....You have to remove the foot to get to it. It is not a real difficult job if you are mechanically inclined. If you take it to the shop you are probably looking at about 40 bucks for parts and a hour labor at whatever their labor rate is.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

[QUOTE=bird down;2174198]Is it not possible that some junk is blocking the water flow somewhere?[/QUOTE
Have you been running it in sand and mud? If not nothing should be stopped up.

Ten four. Right before it happened I got stuck on a mud flat so I just figured it somehow sucked some sort of junk up in there. To the boat shop it goes. Hope there not busy cause this weekend looks like a good weekend to put some slime in the boat
The water runs out the pee (inspection) hole BEFORE it goes into the engine. If the engine got hot, which is why the buzzer went off, the impeller is gone. If the inspection hole was stopped up, the engine would have stayed cool from the water pump still working, and not set off the buzzer.
I've seen lots of engines that were peeing, but still getting hot. That's because the thermostat was bad, or the water jacket had stopped up, or the impeller was worn to the point that it would pee, but not send enough water volume to the engine to keep it cool.
