I'll try to make a long story shorter. I've been pulling crankbaits for twenty years, alway with the outboard. But after reading on this board about the Terrova, I just had to have one on this new boat. So I brought the boat home with a Terrova iPilot 80#, 24V, 45" shaft. Then I came home and read the rest of the article, and learned it was supposed to be 101#, 36V, 60" shaft. Fortunately for me, my dealer liked my boat so much he order him one like it for his personal use. And on my recommendation, her order him a Terrova iPilot 101#, 36V, 60" shaft. Once he saw how long the shaft was he wasn't happy. I wasn't satisfied. So we swapped.
In a previous life I was an electrician but don't have much experience with DC voltage.
Now to the questions. Minn Kota literature calls for #6 wire and a 50 amp fuse. Yet they send #8 wire for the jumpers to make 36V, and provide #8 wire leads on the motor itself. My boat is wired with #8 for the trolling motor circuit and has #8 wire pigtail to the trolling motor receptacle. It has a 30 amp fuse holder holding a 40 amp fuse; which I am changing out to a 40 amp breaker tomorrow. I know this is safe and at worst will pop the breaker.
Now really to the questions:
How do you have yours wired?
Wire size?
Receptacle?
Fuse/Breaker size?
Any problems?
If I do decide to pull #6 wire, I can use the existing #8 for a future electric anchor.
What size circuit do you need for an anchor? Never had one.
