IF it would work. I could split screen it to DI and regular FF mode and see things alot better. It'd be easy to just move it when I switched form the console to up front, then I'd have my way points I marked with it along with the Di tech

Yep
DD, look here http://www.crappie.com/crappie/fishi...ml#post1007248 Jason has some purty good images with speeds below 1 mph.
Yes, it will "work". The touble will be just like with 2D, interpreting what you see. Take a look at the pic. Imagine the left side is a DI image moving forward over a stump at .8 mph with the chart screen set properly. Perfect representation. Now the right side would be sitting stationary over the stump for an extended period. The screen willl draw the return of the top of that stump and the left side will be a history of those returns repeated over and over since you're stationary. Will work good if you want to be directly over and there's a difference in the known depth around you. Immediate confirmation of exact position. Trouble is, in the real world, it's almost impossible to stay exactly motionless and it's incredibly easy to drift off the stump and not know which direction is is from you.
If you have an object that you have a lot of confidence in, it's best to find and mark it with a buoy and fish it that way.

Did you see the SI screenshots I posted the first trip out and the funny looking stuff? That was SI though and I was hoping the Di would be abit different. By splitting the screen, I'd have BOTH a DI view and the standard FF view. I could actually speed up as I come into an area to get a better view and turn the chart speed down to say 1

If my guess about how you fish is correct, it would be helpful. I envision you slowly poking around searching for the structure in relatively deep water then when you locate it, stopping over it for a while before moving on. That being said, I think the DI up front could only be a bonus in interpretting what you're looking at from the traditional 2D view. You image will alternate between interpretable and not interpretable as you're moving and searching. However, I suspect you've fished your area so regularly, you already know pretty close to where the structure is and already have an idea of what the structure actually is. In that case, the DI upfront would only be a plus for you. The DI upfront advantage would almost disappear if you were fishing new water and unfamiliar with where something is and movement would be needed to be able to interpret what's there. That being said, the beauty up DI is a clearer picture of what is there, not whether or not something is there, so Front DI in a new area couldn't hurt you at all.
Give it a shot when you have the extra cash for the new mount/ducers and power.
BTW, there's nothing to prevent you from taking your existing power cable, pig tailing it at the console and putting a femail pigtail a the front. Done it myself. I enjoy screwing Big Sonar out of an additional $25 bucks for a 40 cent cable when I can. Only advice is to coat the pigtails with dielectric grease.

Not listen up ya Following me around to harass me Idget. LOL
I'd ease around with it AT the console, marking Waypoints as I go. Once I figger out the best area to fish, based on Way points, wind, current and several other factors, simply head to that area, move the H'Bird up front and then fish the areas I have marked. Not just the power cable though, GPS is mounted in the back of the boat along with the transducer so I'd have to have another set to make this work. That is unless you can figger out a way to extend that cable all the way to the front. That's another 8-10 feet I'm guessing.

It's called a cable extender. Check it out.
'Course the puck would be behind you, but still you could manage with it on the cheap.
