I'm with you on that, Buck !! I had no doubt who was singing back in the day, but can't tell many of today's artists apart ... especially the female vocalists. Wasn't hard for me to tell the difference between Joan Jett & Stevie Nicks, but when I hear female vocalists now, they all sound the same to me. Not to mention that I don't even know who over half of them are.
Well, for me growing up anything but OLD country found around the house was instant target practice for dad and his Ruger .357 from the hip. My oldest sister sure kept him in practice too. Kitty Wells, George Jones were fairly new singers back then. Funny, but really don't listen to it much anymore. Unless I'm driving a long ways and start to get a bit tired. Up goes the music, down go's the window, and my hand hanging out the window usually gets me going again...
After I went in the service, I was exposed to a rather diverse amount of music styles, About every type out there, but I always gravitate back to those OLD, OLD country songs...One that comes to mind is Four Walls by Jim Reeves, and Walkin' After Midnight by Patsy Cline. Man, Can't seem to remember all of the older artist that have gone on before us. Don't hear them played any more on the radio much any more either...
Got me thinking, about what younger female singers I have heard lately that have a distinct voice. This gal - I don’t have any problem recognizing her. She’s been through a lot with substance abuse and mental health issues, hope she keeps singing for a long time though. Here is one I like that I believe should be appropriate.
