Randy, I wanted a certain amount of open atmosphere feeling and I think I got that effect with this plan. I looked at a lot of floor plans
and got a lot of ideas to come to my conclusions. For two people that don't do a lot of entertaining and don't have children/grandchildren,
this plan works well for us. Thought about what is coming down the road and believe it would suite the needs of a family with children.

My only problem for me would be, because of claustrophobia I can't have doors on the toilets like that. Go ahead and laugh. It's true. One of the reasons I won't go to larto this year is the little bathroom space at the cabins. My 5th wheel has much more bathroom space. Joe, I have a friend who put up a 50 x 100 building. He enclosed 40 ft and made that into his house and the other 60 ft has his tractors and shop for his toys. Came out super. He went with high ext. walls and ran his house duct work in such away that he also has lots of storage above the house part. He also put a kitchen in the shop area for boiling seafood are frying food. Also built a fine pit out side the building and covered it with a smoke vent installed.

You are welcome......worked on drawings for 55 years so not to complicated.....one thing to consider on your doorways.....I would install 36" doors everywhere.....never know when you will need handicap access (wheelchair).....a lot of us are getting to that age....also, consider counter tops about 34" high in the bathroom....as you age, bending over is hard.....mine is 34".....wife has 31" and likes mine better while brushing teeth.....

Your so right about looking down the road. Had not thought about the height of the counter tops and sink top measurements. Will certainly consider your recommendations
and the wife will too. Thought about wheelchair on the master bath and the wide doors for easier access. Thanks a whole bunch.

Danny, you would believe the feeling my wife gets when you close the pantry or closet door behind her. Wild cat gone crazy. But she wants that door to close on the potty room. I can live with it either way. If I could have had my way, many years ago I would have built an underground home. Looked at several and loved them, but the wife
would not even go inside. She is not completely crazy about the metal home, but photos we have seen seems to have softened her thoughts. I love the idea of low maintenance, low utility costs, structural strength and lower taxes. What I have inside my barn is my business.

We found out the hard way about 36" doors. My wife broke her ankle last November and was in a wheelchair and rollator for about 6 weeks. We are in our "retirement" downsized home and because we are still relatively young and in good health we never thought about the wider doors. We had a real problem with some of the doors in our house. This was an eye opener.
She also wants to put one of the higher toilets in because she had trouble pulling up from the lower models that most homes have. I did not know you could get them in different heights but you can and they look like a regular commode, not a handicap model.

Very true what Bruce said about 36" doors, did the same thing. My counter and vanity tops I built are at 36" in height as well. If you want an open look like you said in the main room, have the ceiling vaulted. So true what you said about the idea of low maintenance, low utility costs, structural strength and lower taxes. Smart thinking my friend.

About the property taxes. In Louisiana, one can claim farm/ranch use as an exemption. In which I use, can't recall what the minimum acreage is. Maybe five or ten acres, don't remember. Someone does come out on occasion to check and they see my goats wondering around in their area and leave. Since Texas doesn't have the state income tax, they make it up on the property taxes if I recall. I have been meaning ask someone over there. Once again, nice Joe.

I built the wider doors and installed the higher toilets in our current house. The toilets are only about 1.5 inches higher, but so much easier to get off of. I installed a raiser for the toilet in our last 5th wheel. Haven't gotten to it in the new one, but I will.
