We irrigated back in West Texas from the Rio Grande. The county allotted water on certain days and a specified time period for each land owner. Once the gates were opened we had to continually keep the water moving through the property through our irrigation ditches, gates, etc. Hard work, I didn't have to go to school during those allotted time periods - the school district allowed it. What I remember the most is the dogs running through that water having big fun along with the nastiest leaches and eels you have ever seen. You had to scrape those big leaches off with a knife.
When I moved down here, I was like look at these guys. They just have to watch the rain. Enjoyed your post. Thanks.
