Shrimpers only in the ocean and gill nets out of the sounds would go a long way to solving the problem. There also needs to be some sort of co-op created to help commercial fishermen using nets to become fish/aquaculture farmers. Look at this satellite picture taken from Nelson Bay. We fished very close to this area a couple of weeks ago. Most of the rectangles you see are clams, but some are oysters. Pop and I were talking to one of the local guys and the important part of the operation is they can meet the needs of restaurants year round. Farming like this adds structure to the water and we call know how important structure is to the food chain.
