We anchor the boat sideways to the river and put about 5 rods out. We use 1 1/2 - 2 oz. weights to keep it on the bottom. I use a 3 way swivel and drop a 12"-15" drop line to the weight and an 18"-24" leader to the hook; Zach just uses a Carolina rig. If I'm using cut bait I too use a Carolina rig as it doesn't tangle as much. We still use shad anchored up, but aren't afraid to cut it up more when we're anchored.
