As long as I get twelve per dozen I feel I'm getting a good count. Anything over that is a giveaway by the business which I appreciate and pay back by buying ice, snacks, batteries for aerator etc from the same business. Having said that, most of the shape around Truman give good minnow counts, some more than others if they know you're going to buy other items.

If you are coming in from the south like I do, stop in Osceola and see Fuzzy at Fuzzy's Booze And Bait. Good bait and good count.

The count is definitely something I consider when having the option of places to buy minnows. I consider a good count an advertising method and I buy other stuff in the store based upon that generous count. I avoid places who count each minnow and usually comment on them when they start down that road. One of my favorite jabs is "Damn- I didn't realize I was buying your pet minnows! Just so I know, did you give each of them NAMES as well?" If we have the power of our patronage and business, might as well give them input and let them know what we are considering when we buy from them.
That being said, I have a couple places in St. Joe, and Dicks Bait and Tackle is by far the best count for minnows. Their size may be variable, but I don't care if I get enough of the size I use.

I've not used Everharts much, not because of count but because they open later than I usually am going by there. Bucksaw's counts seemed generous to me last year. Tightwad C Store has seemed a little skimpy a couple of times this spring (although I am sure they probably did give me what I paid for, just not much extra). I agree with TwanGang's comment about Dicks Bait and Tackle in St Joe - back when I used to fish Mozingo frequently (before I started storing my boat at Truman) I used to stop there and it was a good place.

Like Jared said, a lot of bait shops down here sell minners by the pound. There's no question on how many you get. Over on Reelfoot, a half pound of smalls have as many minners as 3/4 to a pound of larges

If you ask for 3 dozen and get 36 then you got what you ask for.
Now funny story , Paradise corner store , I go in ask for 4 dozen lady says someone will be right out, ok I go to the tank with my bucket ,and what looked to be a young teenage girl shortly arrived. She takes larger net gets big scoop , then with a smaller net starts counting 1.2.3.4..... about half way through she looses count ,takes all minnows out of bucket, starts over , maybe 15 minutes later she gets her count .I say thank you and go to truck. Debbie ask wth took so long I couldn't help but laugh and after telling her we laughed about it every time we went in the bucket!

JR I bet you were helping her count is the reason it took so long!
Is there a bait store by sparrowfoot ramp? Haven't been that direction yet.
