Default Question for ATM, Handi and Feelay

You guys talked about running your crankbaits at 100 to 150 feet of line out with Bandit 300s in several recent threads. How high above the water's surface are your pole tips running?

Less than a foot on most of mine. ATM's are near vertical. Haven't seen Handi's setup.

same here -- practically parallel to water surface, but I don't have line counters (yet)

I have two straight off the back that are set pretty high so they can easily be seen. The next two are lower and angled at a 45 degree away from the side of the boat just behind the seats. Our next set are low to the water and at a right angle infront of the seats. I guess we get a few tangles, mainly because I'm not keeping straight when she is letting out or reeling in.

Sunday a boat came over to us thinking we were somebody else. We were pulling 150 back. They skirted around us a pretty good distance back. I was surprised when they fouled our lines. I figured the lines would be deeper than they were. 30 pound slick 8 and suffix 832. By the way these braids are much tamer than regular power pro.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

Braid won't run the baits as deep as mono, it floats.

    Mine are 1' - 5'. Handi's are about a 1' or so.

Never thought of that. Here goes another line change on about 3 reels. gonna leave the others braid. Better idea just order 3 new reels. About as cheap as that line I just spooled on.

Thanks Guys. So with 100' of line your cranks are running about 14.7' deep and with 150' of line cranks are at about 17' deep (subtracting 1' from the precision crankbait charts for the distance of pole tip above water). Is my reasoning correct?

My chart says 130' back is running 17' down.
