Probably going to do it this weekend. As soon as the launches open at Elizabeth Park we'll be going down to the Detroit River for perch and hopefully a few walleye, too. I'll let you know when we're going, Steve, and you can tag along. Usually have room for one more.
I think no matter what it's a good idea to pull and inspect every couple years. I remember year before last running around down Allegan way finding new bearings while my boat sat on the trailer at Eagle lake with toasted bearings because I got lazy...2017 "Shots From The Hip" No fishin that day.

    Sorry for your loss.

I am willing to bet Steve will have the exact same idea as I do.

Johnson's workbench in Charlotte Michigan (right down the road from Steve's house). This is where we buy all of our high quality hard to find wood, venear, or get custom sawing down. They have a mill on site and a great selection of wood of all different types and sizes. Shoot them a call and let them know what you are looking for. No curly cherry here but if you can't find any and want walnut let me know. I would be happy to donate what you need. I also have some real cool discolored ash.

    So sorry for your loss....

Rich called it! Johnsons Lumber here in Chartucky Michigan!

They have anything and everything for the woodworker. Start out by dialing 517-543-2727 you'll get a recorded message, just hit O and most likely Billie Jo will answer your call. Tell her you would like to be connected to the Workbench, specifically to either Matt Pashby or Ron Campeau......tell them what you need and they will tell you what they got in stock.

Be forewarned the place is addictive to the woodworker, if I had back every dime I've spent there in 20+ years I bet I'd have that 25' Contender Center Console fiberglass boat with twin 300 yamahas!

    Hope that helps

I also have some circular saw walnut I cut and milled about 14 years ago. Johnson's will have what you want and need.

If I had my money back, I would have some cool stuff too!

Thanks to all of you. My neighbor had a small offcut of cc, and that will be the top o' box, as it stands now. I do have some walnut, I've been sitting on it for 4-5 years. Time to use it. My plan now is to make two boxes, while I am milling wood, and sis can pick what she wants.

I do hope that those of you that are doing fall camp have a great time. With both of us doing therapy, there is not time for us to attend. Dee is especially not comfortable in the vehicle, for too long a time. Getting old sucks! Next year will be better. for now......5

I'm starting to make plans for a trip to Alaska next summer. I'll be going with my son and possibly my two daughters. If the girls can't make it we'll find two other bodies to drag along. Does anyone have any tips, advise, points of interest, etc they can share? We will take gear for fishing the rivers and plan on at least one halibut trip but fishing isn't the main focus for this trip. We want to see as mush of the state as we can, within reason. If anyone has any hidden jewels as far as site seeing, catching a few fish, places to stay or even places to avoid I'm all ears.

    Jerry,
Let me know where you guys are going and also how you are getting there. I've driven out there, and taken a ferry. My best friend lived in Southeast Alaska for 5 years.
