    Default Measuring width question

I recently got a 14' aluminum monark boat, and was wondering how to measure the width. When someone refers to a boat as a 1442 for example, are they referring to the 42 inches from the top rail to rail? Or are they measuring the deck of the boat? I measured mine on top 55 inches across, from rail to rail, but about 38 inches on the width of the deck. Thanks

A 1442 boat is 14 feet long and the bottom is 42 inches wide.

My 1648 was 48"wide on the bottom thru the middle, and 16' from center nose to center transom.
