Angry Dumb and Dumber's word of caution to my fishing friends!

I left the pin out of my foldaway trailer tongue yesterday AM. Got about 30 minutes from lake....braking on approach to intersection.....BAM!....Boat slams into rear of truck.......

I really hate to tell this...but thought a visual reminder might spare someone else...Name: photo.JPG

As a testimony to Minn Kota....I fished and used the TM all day. Worked fine...even the US2 'ducer was workin fine ( although it was not pointing straight down..)... The motors housing/skeg look to be rotated to about 7o'clock. THe fishing was tough though....

Really messed up the from gunnel under the mount as you can see....

Who would you take the boat too to get the gunnel repaired? Basically a body shop?

BTW...when I put my boat away I always fold the trailor tongue back and stick the pin back in the hole...for some reason I laid it on the deck of my boat....somehow in the darkness...I got in a hurry and distracted....I do recall feeling something get a little squirrelly once before the crash.....but nothin big....it pulled like it always did untill I had to brake and veer right at the same time.

So learn from my carelessness!!!!!!! this could have been way way worse.

Sorry to hear what happened. I've often wondered what would happen as I've got a fold away tongue on my rig as well and like you I put the pin back in the hole after folding the tongue back when I park it in the shed. Haven't made that mistake yet, hope I don't either. Hope it all can be fixed w/o much effort or $$.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Sorry for the bad luck. We all do bonehead stuff from time to time you were just tough enough to post it.

What's the back of the truck look like?

This is one of those instances where the pic doesn't do it justice.

Dang, that stinks. I'm the worst at stuff like that. I do find that if you go fishing, hunting, work on stuff yourself.......basically DO stuff instead of sitting in front of the television, you're going to mess up from time to time. I've gotten lucky several times on this and that. Either way, it's a nice rig and well worth the deductible to get it back right.

Man that really stinks but thanks for sharing. One more thing to look out for when hooking up.
If it can be done......I will eventually do it it seems.

Hmmm, so there is a down side to the fold away tongues. Thanks for the info and sorry for your loss.

It's gotta hurt but posting this may save someone else the same pain.
