Sorry to hear about your motor troubles but glad that you are getting the replacement installed. I think you made a good choice. You will be back on the water soon. Good![]()

Very sorry to hear that. I worry about the same. My Evinrude is 1998. If it goes..........I hate to even think about it. Hope you get straight quickly.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do have a retirement plan...FISHING!
I traded it in. I really hated to but after i thought about it i knew i wouldn't mess with it & didn't want to buy the newer motor & have the old one rebuilt to sale because so many are going 4 stroke that it's a big time diminishing market for a two stroke. Without a doubt though it was one of my all time favorite motors i've owned. It will still start & idle all day but you know it when you try to plane out.
Thought i'd post a little update on the 2019 mercury pro xs four stroke i bought to go on my stratos 18XL. I've only had it out twice but it broke down on me both times.Only 49 hours on it & it had to have a fuel supply module replaced. Thankfully Merc took care of it even though the warranty expired in January. I fished a tournament Saturday night & it ran great on a long run & several moves from spot to spot. Then we decide to head back uplake & fish a couple spots to try to fill our limit & when i went to come out of the hole it wouldn't do it. We ended up idling from 1:15 am until 4:45 am the nearly 20 miles back up the lake. Dealer had me drop it off at his shop after we made it back & said he'd check it out & let me know today but i never heard a word. Hopefully it's an easy fix & nothing major again. Supposed to be one of the best motors ever made but this mercury sure ain't doing much to make me like it.
My old 175 johnson only had a water pump kit installed, plug & wires changed & a carb rebuild on it in over 10 years i owned it. Every part i changed on it was original from 2002 & it probably had at least 1500 hours on it. I just don't see this mercury doing that unless something drastically changes.
sorry to hear about the merc , sure miss my lil johnson , that thing was a real beast ,ran it hard as heck and sold it still running like a top when I ruined the boat on a stump ......
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales
Sounds like you made the right decision. Congrats on the “new” motor!
Bob
Found out the only problem with my motor was that the throttle cable came out of the part that holds it on the motor.
