Very busy around here so I didn't walk out to bait the trap till just now. Apparently we have a Coon that can open the trap. It ate all the food last night, left me a present, & promptly escaped. I'm open to suggestions here folks. Any ideas how to rig the trap so it will hold the Raccoon?

My pocket got picked again last night! More trap modifications are needed I guess.

Darn you got a sneaky critter. Stay up tonight and give them a KABOOM. That should work.

Get a can of cat food open it up. Drill a hole in the can and attach a string to can and the tripping mechanism. Place it at the back end of the trap and make sure you wire the back end up really good. I had a battle with a smart coon and this is how I defeated him. Saying this I looked out the window last night in time to see a skunk going underneath by deck. I sprinkled some flour around the opening to see if he is just visiting are was he returning home for the day. Sadly for me he entered but never left. I can trap him but dispatching him is gonna be a huge problem. Sadly I had to starve the last one and it held on for 5 days. My job is going to be sealing up everything in my backyard but I can't do anything until it drys out a bit. We have had 3 straight days of rain.

I can catch this coon in the trap, the problem is it has learned how to reach around the trap door, pull the door stop, and escape. I'm going to modify one of the traps today, add some aluminum wings to the trap door to close up the clearance a bit. Block the critters leg from reaching around the door. Post to follow.

Good luck. Fun to outsmart them. Any way to attach weight to the door so it shuts quickly and creates more resistance?

The spring is the type I can't add tension to. The door stop locks the door shut. You can see the mud left by the coons leg as it reaches around to pull the stop back. I'm a beached whale right now. Real Power Jethro Lunch today, got me in the recliner for a few minutes digesting. In a bit I will start modifying the old trap and post up the changes.

Good luck. I try to build a tunnel so they cant reach thru. Then I tie it down and stake it down so they can't rock the trap either.
