We got new neighbors about 18 years ago. Right before Hurricane Katrina. Well 2 skunks showed up with them. Not With Them but just at the same time. I have been here since 1990 and other than smelling one once in a while that is the only visual I have experienced here. Still with the traps out every night I worry Pepe Le Pew will be in a trap one morning.

I am blessed with an over abundance of them. Certainly hard critters to deal with. They certainly like eggs and chickens as well

Man, everything seems to like chickens! That’s one of the reasons I haven’t tried to have any where we live now, not wanting to deal with all the predators. But I just had a thought, we have those 2 freeloading Aussies that adopted us. Could potentially have them earn their dog food a little. They chase everything else up to and including vehicles. I just put out a deer feeder back in edge of the woods last weekend. Wondering if I’m gonna have any deer or turkey show with all the dogs running amuck.

There deer do not mind the dogs we have . They stand there and look at them. Unconcerned as they can be.

My brother in law was a trapper. He said shoot them in the lungs, they will not spray. So I did that one evening from a treestand. Skunk spun round that arrow shaft several times and never sprayed. Maybe it was the extra large 3 blade broad head that made a difference!

After a bit a research I have learned that if you shoot them in the lungs their is about a 70% chance they will not spray. My Pepe has been in the trap for 5 days and does not seem to be slowing down. Just like a child he sleeps during the day and paces in the trap during all night. He is heavy sleeper so I really think I could sneak up on him during the day but if i'm wrong it could be a stinky mistake. My 8 year old grand niece saw him yesterday and now thinks he is my pet I bought some wire today to block entrance underneath my shop and deck.

interesting dispatch method , in all my years of setting traps , the only thing that ever sprayed me was a big male mink , have been lucky enough to NOT ketch me a single skunk as of yet , prolly just jinxed myself , but it is what it is .....
