What is the advantage of red hooks?

My understanding is this; in the UV spectrum red is the first color to get washed out to something like gray.

I also believe there is something to using red in every presentation. I also believe it imitates blood from a wounded baitfish or the red from a gill flaring open. A few years ago I found some red and silver Mylar in the party section at Dollar Tree. The stuff was pretty and almost indestructible so I stated adding a tiny bit of the material on my fishing line above the hook. I think it and "Slab Sauce" really helps attract the fish to my presentations.
