I know that she is the one who needs help but don't forget about yourself. All of this is hard on you as well. Physically and emotionally. Please allow yourself the attention YOU need. It is so easy, while making sure you are there for her, that your well being is sacrificed. She benefits from a strong, clear thinking warrior by her side.

Im sorry to hear that. I will keep you all in my prayers. My 80yr old grandma had one early this year. They had to do a trach also. She was hospitalized for several months the she went to rehab. She home and much better now. Recovery is possible its just a long process.

    Keep the faith. Blessings

We're still hoping and praying for a full recovery even though you've had a setback. It is good advice that you need to take care of yourself in order that you might stay at your best for her.

I have had 2 strokes, the last one was pretty significant. It will be 6 years ago the 14th of this month. The dr said that I suffered a massive stroke that only 1/2 of 1% have larger and I walked out of the hospital 5 days later and that put me in less than 1% do so. My entire right side, eye sight and hearing were affected and my speech. 6 years later by the grace and mercy of God I have recovered almost 100%. I just turned 48 when I had the stroke. A dr in the hospital told me that God would heal me for his purpose, no less and no more!!!

My Dad had a stroke a number of years ago. It laid him out for a short time, with all four limbs affected and breathing and speech problems. A whole lot of people were praying for him. It wasn't too long before he got use of his arms, but his legs weren't a hundred percent, so he had to use a cane. His breathing and speech improved drastically. He had several "minor" strokes after that, which mostly affected his breathing, so he was put on oxygen. He couldn't drive a car anymore, but he continued to drive a tractor in haying season. Eventually he was put in a wheelchair and moved into a great nursing home, 35 miles from the little town we all grew up in. We picked him up every Sunday morning to take him to church, have lunch, go on a picnic or some other fun activity. He had been a really good harmonica player and decided to try it again. Lo and behold, his lungs got better the more he played, and the doctors took him off the oxygen. He was asked to play some hymns in Sunday service and did great. He passed on about this time last year at the age of 90, praising God and thanking Him for a wonderful life.
I have also had a stroke, but didn't even know it. I was umpiring a ballgame in hot weather, when I suddenly lost energy and sat down, feeling "strange". The emergency room did an exam and told me that I had heat exhaustion. 30 years later a co-worker accidentally hit me on the head and the supervisor sent me to the ER. The doctor ran a brain scan and told me that it was a concussion. Then she asked me when I had had my stroke, saying that there was "clear evidence" of a previous stroke. Apparently, it was more than heat exhaustion at the ballfield.
Praying for you and Dena and the skill of the rehab center. God bless.
    Keep posting as Dena improves.

My Grandma had three strokes back to back. It took a while but she pretty much recovered. Had a bit of a problem with speech and confusion, but she was good.
I pray all works out y'all.

Praying your wife gets better. If you do not like the LTAC demand they find another answer. I found out after we went to LTAC and then back to hospital I could have refused sending her there. When they wanted to send to nursing home for rehab I refused all they suggested until they got her into Brooks Rehab hospitol. Stand your ground and be a strong advocate for your wife. Insurance companies are worried about dollars. You focus on best possible care for your wife. And take care of yourself. She will need you to remain strong.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!
