Excellent point! My definition of "too close" is how close do I want someone to come in on me? I should offer the same courtesy.

I've had many experiences with this situation but one a few years ago really topped them all. I was fishing a shallow bar on KY Lake for sauger and watched 2 OLD guys launch at the ramp on the point, motor directly to where we were fishing, push my boat out of the way, and drop their anchor. After I let off some steam, I asked the guy who pushed the boat just what the @#&^&%$$ he thought he was doing touching my boat. He told me that was his spot and he was going to fish there.

Since the sauger bite was over after daylight and we were ready to trailer the boat, I just told him what a sorry POS he was and left. If they hadn't been so close to the bank, I probably would have expressed my displeasure in a way that would have taken them a while to dry out.

Don't touch my wife, my kids, or my boat!!!

With today's mapping technology, sonar, down imaging, etc.. it doesnt' take too much to look at a map, find an area that looks good and fish it. You catch fish, mark it and come back if you catch them there. Problem is other people have the same technology, mark the same spots. Public water has no rights of ownership. If someone is there before you, should have been there earlier.. If them move in on me when I'm there, give me space so I can fish too. DOn't get in casting distance, or you might catch my treble hook, and dont' touch my boat......

What gets me mad is when you are fishing along the bank catching a few fish. And you hear a boat behind you. And turn to look and they will hurry to get to the next boathouse before you. You know they seen you fishing and that your boat is facing that way so they know what direction you are fishing. But will still get right in front of you.

Hopefully "my wife" (actually your wife) is not community property as any spot or area on public water actually is

Well, you are right on the spot with that! I guess I got a lil carried away!

Every lake I fish has multiple "spots". "MY spot" might also be "their spot"! I usually just move on to another spot, area, or whatever. I don't fish to get ticked at the world. I fish to avoid the world. I've found some of the best fishing when I have had to change course and fish elsewhere.

That said, don't poke the bear. I am the nicest guy you will ever meet. I'll give most anyone the bait from my box, spots to fish, what to use and so on. Do not however come up to me and tell me that I am in "your spot". I will laugh it off but don't push me. You won't like the outcome. This however changes when my daughter is in the boat. I have to set an example no matter how much I want to do or say something. I utilize it as a learning or teaching lesson of how NOT to act or how NOT to be when you grow up!

To many people are spot fishermen, I try to fish new stuff every time I go so if someone is fishing (my spot) I can go to the next likely place. I really don't have a plan when I go fishing i let the fish tell me where to fish . Every day is different and I only have a starting point for the day basted on where I caught them last.

One other point I want to make; I recently was trolling a major creek on KY Lake with clients when we started seeing orange marker buoys but the only boat near them was 100 yards away. When we swung in closer to one of them, I got the wrath of a certain fisherman who happened to have 7-8 markers all over a 100 square yard area of the bay. He let me know real quick HE was fishing that area and didn't appreciate me being near his markers. I ignored him and went on about my trolling, some of it between markers that were dozens of yards away from his boat. In his pea-sized brain, I was encroaching on HIS area.

    Doug,

That is a tough road to hoe when you are guiding clients. As much as we want to say something, we know better about it and are forced to turn the other cheek. Just like with our children, we are forced to take the high road. In the end, your clients probably thought the world of you!

Like I said before. Don't poke the bear. I have a vindictive mind. Wouldn't take much to put on a few of the ugliest diving baits in my box and tow a few bouys half way around the lake!

I do however run planer boards all the time so I wonder if running my boards right up against his bouys would have been offlimits. Hey, my bouys were just getting to know your bouys!
