I fish a lot of brush piles and prefer 4lb maxima ultra green. I find that braid get hung up more than mono. When a jig hits a limb with braid there is no give to braid and your hung. With mono it stretches and doesn't stick as quick, plus I can bounce it loose many times. So, you end up breaking off more or tearing up your brushpiles.

I gave braid a try a few years back and didn't care for it.Different feel and I'm so use to just grabbing my line and pulling when I get a hangup and that braid cuts you up,I'm a mono man for sure.

Well crap - so, I loaded up some 10# braid on one of my crappie poles, got snagged on a rock, wiggled and jerked it like I would with the 4# mono, and dang if it didn't snap the end off of my pole. It was a cheap pole, but still - the way the braided line had 0 stretch really caught me off guard... Guess it's back to mono for me - and time to replace a rod... lol

I've read a couple of guys like flouro - what are the characteristics? Is it just as springy and sensitive as mono? I'm used to 4 or 6 lb mono, for comparison.

Mono for crappie fishing creeks/lakes & braid for bass fishing in the mighty Ohio.

I've used 4# Stren mono for years , but next spring will be spooling up with 6# or 8#braid, and a fluorocarbon or clear mono leader . Just tired of fighting the line twist off the spinning reel.
I thought fish trembled when they heard my name.......then I heard the laughter

What kind of knot do you use for tying mono to braid?

I know this might be taboo, but I use a snap swivel to keep the line twist down. I tie a jam knot on the swivel, so it stays pretty sensitive.
