I receive the MS newsletter and MS State University latest research data every year BC fishing the lakes and seeing what they do work is fascinating. Again my point is just start. Lake Darbonne is heading down the wrong road.
Need to talk to your state biologists and tell them your concerns. By the way....reducing the minimum length at Sardis and placing a 3 pole limit was not done for any biological reasons.....it was done because the single polers at the public meeting with MDWFP folks out numbered the trollers 10 to one
. That's what they wanted and as usual the squeaky wheel gets the most grease wether it needs it or not. I hope Darbonne gets straightened out....I have always wanted to fish that lake.

Its been done. Nothing will happen unless its forced by money. Which will happen in 2015 when Ruston makes a killin from Crappie Masters and Farmerville misses out on it from being lazy. People will wake up eventually and realize fishing can make a community in every aspect.

Thanks for sharing Waxnslabs. I remember when Poverty Point tagged some white perch several years ago and I caught one (only got a cap, though, for turning it in). Apparently the data collected didn't affect anything because the limit was and still is 25. Poverty Point is also the only lake where I have had numerous creel checks, although none lately. I think managing for white perch is sort of like managing for deer. The fishermen need to decide what it is they want. Do they want to catch lots of eating sized fish or have the chance to catch a trophy fish? Either way, Poverty Point would be a good lake to experiment on because the whole lake is a state park and they can pretty much set any rules they want.

From what I understand Poverty Point isn't as good as it used to be. We dont do what is working around us. Need Size and Creel limits. It would most likely take our data being sent off to a state that is experienced in an area like that for us to be successful. Or at least our people being trained to do so. As of now they just say oh there's no evidence saying we need that. Thats why we drive to our lakes and hit 12 potholes while trying to launch. We have no money. Its a win win. Regulations will improve fish size and generate revenue. The crappie is MS state fish. They're going to be the best. But we are way behind times in everything. Deer included. As of now we may as well not even have any rules BC we are so laxed as is. Better quality will keep people in the state instead of commuting out of state to catch/kill what they want. Which equals more money to improve everything that has to do with our fishing and hunting. People will argue this all day, but spend some time at the big 4 and see how quick you change your mind. Its hard to have an opinion without experiencing perfection. It goes further than just catching fish. MS offers an overall great experience BC of what their mgmt has done.

"They use a lot of different tactics" what are these tactics? Multiple poles, multiple baits, nets?

    IMO

Most of the public waters in south La. will not produce 3+sacs regardless of size and creel limits. Fish kills from storms is the biggest factor.

Except the MS river which is full of big sacs Just too difficult to fish. Old River Morganza has em too. But it's not fishable most of the year.

Oh boy this is gonna be good!!!! Wax, I agree totally about a minimum length limit. IMO pick a few bodies of water and do a test study. Darbonne was just a test last year when they took the creel to 25, what was done with the data (if any was taken) we'll probably never know. I'm all for it on PP. You guys can say the lake is on the downside all you want but my freezer and the four 3 pounders on my wall say otherwise. I'm sure it's not as good as when it first opened, but you tell me what body of water that is after it becomes public. I fish MS, AR, LA, and TX waters, all have great fisheries but we are behind the times. This was a very intense subject on this forum a little over a year ago when the creel limit was imposed on Darbonne and hopefully this thread won't get as heated but their are going to be some that fight this tooth and nail. I do feel that their needs to be more enforcement agents to make this effective.

Darbonnes creel limit last year was changed for like 5 months then changed back. So really of enough time past til study it. Which creel limits alone do very little anyways for fisheries.
