Thread: Tellin' it like it is...

From what I hear from the local's,same story as your's.I talked with one of my friend's and he said he catche's 1 keeper to every 20 or so fish with nothing over 11in.I wonder where all those 8 3/4 in fish from last year are? This is just my opinion but ever since they put those musky in several year's ago GR has never been the same.Back in the late 70s and early 80s me and my dad could fill a wire basket full of big crappie.That might have been the problem also lol.

Yea...where are those 8 3/4" from last year, or for that fact, the 9" ones? Me and the wife quit keeping 9" fish, cause we were catching enough 10" fish or better . We weren't limiting out or anything like that. We'd take 10 or 12 fish, but didn't hesitate throwing 9" fish back. Hmmmm... make ya wonder!

is one of the most cyclic lakes I've ever fished, or even known about. Seems like it's always a couple of years of small fish, then a banner year of slabs, then back to small fish. It's been that way for decades, it seems.

I don't think the Muskie are solely responsible for this, as much as it is the nature of the fish & the lake itself. I used to hear locals blame the Stripers, for the reduced numbers/size of Crappie being caught at Watts Bar (TN). I've been fishing that lake for decades, and the Stripers are still there ... and the Crappie are doing fine. They did have a creel reduction implemented, but that was due to increased angling pressure, interrupted spawns, and a change in the timing of lake level adjustments.

Well,.....alright. The wife and I have been big fans of casting "Lucky Strike Swim-N-Minnow" (Love that thump-thump) we put in at Arnold's Landing, and fished a couple of small bays past the bridge. Had better luck back in the bays than at the mouths - may have been due to the East wind. Didn't do any good along the channel. Fished stumps at the cove openings, with no luck either.

Anyway, we generally fish a minnow-n- float, while casting. The minnows produced a few crappie, the occasional small (tiny) bass, and a couple of Blue gills. Most Crappie on the Swim-n-Minnow on a 1/16 minnow jig head. Black Comet (White Head), Pumpkin Pearl, and Southern Lights(Pink Heads) produced about equally well.

As far as EXACTLY where we caught them, most of them were right in the CORNER OF THE MOUTH!!!!!!:D

I have fished green for probably 20 years, and am no expert by any means. I agree with crappiepappy, green river lake goes in cycles. We have been catching good crappie for the last 3 years, and I was always wondering when the cycle would change. We went on Saturday and caught 20 keepers, but had to work hard to get them. All the keepers we caught were 10 inches to 14 inches. When you catch a keeper, you don't have to measure it.

Last year we caught 100's of 8 3/4 fish. You know, those fish that just miss the line by a hair. I think those fish are going home to someone's freezer. I see a lot of fish that are caught that look real questionable and are not even measured, they are just thrown in the box. We only caught four fish that were close to that 8 3/4 mark.

OK stsburnsy --- I'm not asking for your Honey Hole, but please tell me what general part of the Lake, and depth please. ( Robinson, Holmes Bend,etc. etc. )
