is one of the most cyclic lakes I've ever fished, or even known about. Seems like it's always a couple of years of small fish, then a banner year of slabs, then back to small fish. It's been that way for decades, it seems.

I don't think the Muskie are solely responsible for this, as much as it is the nature of the fish & the lake itself. I used to hear locals blame the Stripers, for the reduced numbers/size of Crappie being caught at Watts Bar (TN). I've been fishing that lake for decades, and the Stripers are still there ... and the Crappie are doing fine. They did have a creel reduction implemented, but that was due to increased angling pressure, interrupted spawns, and a change in the timing of lake level adjustments.
