CH I have read your posts and respect your opinion. I've posted my position on the reduced limits in the Ky. part of Ky. Lake and won't get on my soapbox again but... History has proven that reducing the limit alone in this lake is not working. Used to be no limit. Then 60. Then 30. Then 30 10 inch. Now 20 10 inch. Population still dropping. The new limit won't fix the problem! In 5 or 10 years it will be 15, you wait and see. Until they start focusing on more than just 1 part of the problem it ain't go'n away. They need put a stop to the netting in this lake. In the last 3 years I personally know of 2 commercial fishermen that got busted for illegal netting. Heck, 1 of them I saw the crappie in his boat. And you bet I reported him. TVA needs to stop dick'n with the water level so much. Suppimental stocking should be implimented. I could go on.

Well I cought myself stepping up on that soapbox again. I'm done.

Rant on Wiskers rant on. You probaly know the area as well as anyone. I too think it is going to take more than what is being done. People going in with one limit and coming back out and getting a second limit also needs to be addressed. We have to police our own before it gets worse.

First of all, I don't pretend to be a biologist but I do know that something needs to be done. The reason I made that reference is more to the point of something needs to be done and it needs to be done now. If the limit won't work then let's find out what will before this deal gets out of control and there is a loss of quantity and quality for a whole generation of younger fishermen.

Wiskers...you're right the water management is terrible but they ain't managing it for us, we get what's left after power and flood control. I would like to think they could bring the water up a little earlier in the year to help with this problem but everything always looks easy when you don't have all the facts...and I don't when it comes to how much water they can safely bring in and still have enough room to drop it with the potential for flooding when Spring rains occur.

CS...I didn't say that you specifically were hoping the line and that's not even the point. The point is WHY people are hoping the line. I don't give one hair about in state vs. out of state. You got to buy a license to fish, or should, and that money is used for the betterment of our fisheries.

We have guys coming down from PA. to fish and dogonitt, I want to have a fishery here that will supoprt those fishermen coming here and catching quality fish.

I may not have the extensive background in fisheries science to figure out how to plug the hole but that doesn't mean the hole doesn't need plugg'n.

Sounds like we are on the same page after all. The new limit doesn't bother me. It doesn't mean I can't catch 30 or 40 fish, it means all I can keep is 20. No problem there. But like you just said and I've been saying for years, if something isn't done to address more than just 1 facit of the problem, my grandkids aren't gonna be able to catch crappie like I did with my granddad. And you know & I know that a large part of the local buisness go as the crappie fish'n goes.

Good reply. Sounds like the hound is on the right track!

Crappiehound, I'm new to the forum but fished Big Sandy for years..Seems like more and more boats every year and less fish..I teach school up here in Ky and only get to go on weekends and spring break and it's getting tougher to find a place to fish!
