I used to watch college basketball religiously, but now with the best players leaving after one year. It's hard to really pull for a team, because they don't have the time to really develop as a "team." The change in the college basketball landscape has been unfortunate, in my opinion. Even coach K has stopped teaching old school ball. Sad.

I don't understand UK fans at all.
You guys consistently have way better than average teams, way better than average recruits and money is no object in getting a top notch coaching staff. You barely love your team if they are winning and throw them all under the bus if they lose a game.
Living in SW Ohio there are a bunch of UK fans around here and even in the year they went undefeated until that last tourney game and they had over 30 wins I still heard guys complaining. No defense, can't shoot, can't make free throws...on and on it went. I thought WTH are you talking about, they were winning everything. I showed one guy that I worked with that they won by an average over 20 points, he still went on.
I was listening to one local sports announcer one day talking about the Arizona Wildcats and his comment was "they're fans really love those guys, not like the Wildcat fans south of us."
I'm a UC fan, we know where we are. Most years we get 25 wins +/-. We know we're not even going to get a look at the top notch recruits. We hope the next year will be better than the last but realistically we know it won't be.
Year after year you guys have a heck of a team, how you can't not see that is way beyond me.

If we had to talk politics, we would all kill each other.

Seriously, it's the fact we are able to get those top recruits that makes us expect them to perform at a higher level. Go back to the Billy Gillespie era and the expectations weren't nearly as high.

Exactly !!! And that's why we don't allow politics to be discussed on any forum, except the Way Off Topic Forum.

    (to crappiemax)
Big Blue Nation "barely loving" our team when it's winning ??? HA !!! Don't let a few armchair coach's banter make you believe that ... just look at the number of fans that travel to away games !! The other venues, no matter how many seats they have, can't hold all the UK fans that "would attend" a game.

And again .... how can Coach Cal be a overrated "coach", when he takes 4 & 5 star high school kids and turns them into a top ranked team that wins against other teams that have been playing together (as a team) for 3-4yrs ?? And consider our record against U of L, since Calipari has been coach at U of K : 8-2 (counting this loss).

Just like anything else, you inspect what you expect!
Knowing the caliber of our coaching staff, and the players that come to UK, I as a fan and supporter have high goals and expectations of every cat team, period.
I was complaining about missing free throws. This is the same shot, and same distance and rim height throughout their high school careers. I expect 95% of them to be made, period. They practice on how to show boat on their fancy passes and dunks, then the basics and fundementals of basketball should be practiced before hand, which includes shooting free throws.

When you miss 11 free throws I have a problem....

It's just like saying here's a box of the best jigs on the market, now go to a foreign lake and outfish the local who fishes there all the time.

How do you figure that? The goals are the same height, they are in the same spot and the floors are the same dimensions so I don't see it as a good analogy.

UK has a good team and they will be very good when March rolls around. Louisville just played a better game THAT night, the next time may be a different story.

If that were the case, the would be no home court advantage. If you think shooting on every rim and court is the same, you are mistaken.

Not saying there is no home court advantage, just saying all the courts are the same, so is the ball. Unlike your analogy where the visiting fisherman has to find the places to catch (score) fish.

In the UK-Louisville rivalry I'd say the home court advantage is less than say, UK and Duke.

    I dunno...after reading a few responses I still don't get it.
I guess even with the top recruits, top coaches and plenty of money if you are expecting perfection you will always be disappointed cause it's not even realistic to expect it.
To me it still doesn't explain why the cats fans are so negative and in fact seem to be against the very team and coaches they expect so much from.
I worked with one guy who still came in complaining even after a win. A player missed a free throw, missed an easy dunk or had a ball stolen and on and on he went. It was always something and I would think my God UK won by 20 points...
The fact that U of L won the game doesn't mean UK isn't a great team. As a UC Bearcat fan I can attest that no matter who you are, no matter where you play U of L is just one tough team to beat.
It seems to me you guys have had it so good for so long you really have no idea how good you really have it when it comes to college basketball.
I have to say I am definitely not a UK fan and never will be and I think I like the team more than their fans do. What a shame, you don't represent your team well.
