Why you would say Cal "over-rated" as a coach, then identify yourself as a "disgruntled Memphis fan" ... speaks volumes.

Calipari isn't "over-rated" as a coach, IMHO, seeing as how he's been inducted into the Hall of Fame, and has a better record at UK (so far) than he had at Mass or Memphis. And that's been accomplished with one & done freshmen, for the most part. If he wasn't a good coach, just being the "Coach at UK" wouldn't draw that many top ranked players .... just ask Gillispie.

There is an old saying that you must lose one before you know how to win one!
I understand why your disgruntled, I was for 10 years with Tubby at the helm!! I seriously doubt you will see any NCAA championship banners hanging in Memphis anytime soon!

I will keep the overrated Coach Cal, and his top notch recruiting. Cat's vs Cards

Win some, lose some. The lack of defense and poor selection of shots cost us the game. Oh...and missing critical free throws. They'll be fine and make a run like always.

I don't think "great recruiter, so-so coach" is fair. He's the best recruiter ever, so his coaching could never match that.

Also, I remember his UMass teams. He had one great player: Marcus Camby. The rest were good college players, but they certainly weren't the caliber he's getting now. He took those guys and gave UK all they wanted. They beat UK in the '96 regular season but lost in the Final Four. They also beat Georgetown in the tourney and totally shut down Allen Iverson. That doesn't happen without good coaching.

I watched Pitino coach at the Yum Center four years ago. Like him or not, he's one of the very best to ever coach in college bball. UofL was thumping Rutgers that night, it was the last year Rutgers played UofL. Rutgers joined the Big Ten the very next year. Anyway, UofL was winning by 45pts and Rick was wearing the soles of his shoes out, pacing the sidelines and barking at the refs in a 45 point blowout.

That impressed the heck out of me, most coaches would be sitting on their cans. Calipari is the best recruiter ever, hands down. In a game of even talent, Rick spanks Cal's butt, bet on it. BUT, Calipari consistently out recruits Rick, so it's give and take.

Cal is a good recruiter, maybe too good. Can you imagine what he could do if he didn't recruit so many one and done players? Can you imagine 4 titles in a row?

I bleed red so I enjoyed the game, but can you imagine if Cal had a K.A Towns or A. Davis to go with Fox and Monk, be unstoppable.

That's the nature of the game now, every school wants the top talent and the one and dones. Even all the coaches who spoke against it when Cal first started doing, now are following his lead. The only difference is they wear blue and white in the end.

Just think if Murray stayed for this season......
Murray and Monk in the backcourt!
