The few blacknose I have caught have been around that size as well.and as far as the bitems your right just feel heaviness or resistance on your line.

Bubba when Chad and I were younger we caught a 40lb smallmouth buffalo. They have a little parrot mouth with great big scales and big eyes. Oddly they also have these nostril lookin holes and they definitely will blow at you. Ha.
