One of my best fishing trips ever was spent with my wife last June on our 10 year anniversary.
My brother and I had gone fishing the day before and caught over 80 keepers ahead of the aftermath of Hurricane Bill. We already had a babysitter to watch the kids and when she saw how good we did, to my suprise, she said she wanted to go fishing the next morning. I told her the rain and wind was gonna be bad but she insisted it was what she wanted to do. So we left the boat rigged up that night and headed out in the morning.
We got there a little bit ahead of the rain and the bite was still on, big time. We were spider rigging Capps and Coleman double minnow rigs over mid depth brush piles. As the rain came down harder, the fish bit better. She was a real trooper and hung in there right beside me like a pro. She reached over to set the hook on a rod and was having trouble getting the fish up. She asked for my help and to my suprise, we pulled up two 11" crappie on one double minnow rig. It was the first, and only time since, that I have experienced that! And the kicker was, she had just asked me if we had ever caught two craaps at once! It was priceless!
The rain beat down really hard and was blowing sideways so we had to take cover under our umbrella in an adjacent cove. It was kinda surreal looking out from the calm water in the cove to see sheets of rain blowing straight sideways! We waited a little bit and it eventually calmed down, so we went back at it and finished our limits.
We stopped at the local pizza parlor to grab some lunch on the way home and the waitress couldn't believe we were fishing in such bad weather. I don't think she believed us when my wife told her how many we caught.
It was by far the best two days of fishing we have ever had. Add in the fact my wife had the special experience of catching two craaps at once and it made for some very special memories!
