by the way nobody ever accomplished anything without taking some chances, just go slow and take your time and keep your moter trimed up for a while if you can, you can also look at catfish1 and fishin.com there are some real good treads on both and some very knowledgeable people, good luck.

I have a Bass boat, 2004 Stratos Pro XL 19 ft. 10 In. with a 200hp motor. Do you consider my boat to be too small for the river?

not to small at all, do you want to trade. I have a 17 1/2 fisher avenger sport with a 90, I would not hesitate to take it on the river any where, get out there and catch a boatload!!! I fished the river my first year in a 14 ft v hull with a 25hp.

Is crappie fishing good there? Keep hearing everybody telling me that hybrid saugers are hitting like crazy there. Not too much into saugeye but if they are hitting I wouldn't mind catching and release and have a good time. I really like to find some hybrid stripe bass, striper or white bass but don't know if there's any there.

some of the biggest crappie I have ever seen came out of the river in the winter near the power plants, I don't know much about hybrid sauger in there but the tempret bass family( stripers hybrids and white bass) are probably the most promanent game fish in the river (forgive my spelling) the sauger are a ball to catch if you can find them shallow one day deep the next, they have a very light hit but you get used to it after a while (vertical jig using a jig and minnow or jig and twister or blade baits) personally I like to drift and vertical jig to cover more water and catch the more aggressive fish, drifting can be a little more difficult than anchoring but you get the hang of it after a while.

so what do you fish for when you fish the river? I might give the river a try when my Lowrance HDS 12 touch arrives. Hope this unit with the Navionics platinum chip help me locate where the shallows are before getting there.
