Most effective way would be to sell it and get a Variable speed control trolling motor, you'll never regret it.

Greetings all,
I need some help. I have a Bass Tracker 175 with a
Motor Guide trolling motor on the bow. The motor is a five speed, but on low, it still goes to fast for spider rigging/trolling most days. I've read a lot about changing props (different blades - 2, 3, 4) using an electrical device to reduce voltage, cutting down the prop size and now a drift sock.
Having said all that, what is the most effective way to slow this puppy down?
Thanks,

I have a hand controlled 5 speed and just bump it on and off. (yall help me convience my wife I need a foot control) My friend has a foot control and bumps his on and off also. Call us red neck, but we get the job done. Got 30 keepers today in 4 hours.
Everything is possible. The impossible just takes longer!
If you have an extra prop or want to modify the existing one, you can cut it down about 2/3 size being careful to keep it symmetrical and balanced. (If it wobbles it will destroy the seal and get water in the motor.) If you take your time with a hand saw and file you can cut it down and it will drop your speed, you will have to play around with how much you need to remove to get to the speed you want.
Another way is to drag a drift sock or 5 gallon bucket behind you. And of course the ulitmate solution is an I-Pilot.

I could say get Terrova but having gone through it I understand that's not a option for everyone. Being kinda cheap and figuring I can figure out a solution to most problems I would try to find a prop off a smaller thrust motor that would inter change with yours. It might not look exactly like yours but most have same size shaft lock pin recess on back of prop. You just want to make sure it won't bind up. If you decide to modify a prop I would suggest watching some YouTube videos on balancing a lawnmower blade. Same principals are going to apply to balancing your prop. If you find a good solution please let us know because lotta guys are in the same situation.

the easiest but costly option is a terrova with Ipilot. I would try the drift sock, they come in different sizes so one size may not always work for the speed you need, or may need 2 out, before I tried cutting the TM prop down.
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
i have motorglide on 18 9 bass tracker and thought it was too fast to on low but a friend showed me where the other switch was . it has a rabbit and turtle on it hope this helps, dave
