Well, I'm trying to get my family into crappie fishing an I really don't want to take them on a Weiss trip just yet. So I'm trying to get some advice from some of you that get a whole lot more time to fish than me..Which is the best or the best's lakes to fish in eastern ky for crappie? An maybe a general area to focus on that lake..Like the tail or head waters any help will be deeply appreciated..Thanks an God bless
P.S I do more trolling than anything
How far east are you thinking ?
Cave run lake has some good crappie fishing, but might be tough to long line troll some areas due to standing timber. If your not opposed to driving a bit, you should try Green River lake. Lots of opportunity to catch numbers there do the kids don't get bored. Good luck!
I long line and pull cranks at Cave Run ain't to bad badbrad is right lots of timber but thats what you want right. I've been told Paintsville is "the best kept secret" when it comes to crappie but I've never been. Gonna go to Herrington Lake tomorrow and see how it is Kentucky Game and Fish mag did an article on it said it was a great fishery for crappie but once again never fished it so I'll have to get back with you on it.
I live in Perry County..I really just started crappie fishing myself last year..I actually got spoilled cause I was fishing Weiss 7 or 8 times last year an absolutely slaughtering them..Well, now I would love to find a good lake or two to try in eastern Ky..I will take a trip to Green river lake I have heard alot about it.
Go to the Ky fish and wildlife site they have the 2012 fishing forecast posted it tells about every lake in the state.
The only thing better than a day of fishing. Is a week of fishing.
Fishtrap & Dewey, has some pretty good fishing, they are not that far from you. They are nothing compare to Weiss,or Gunterville but for Eastern Ky,be able to put some on the table.

Carr Fork has got a few in it.. Laurel is not that far from you either.
But doesn't have a big crappie population. Woods Creek Lake did have a good population, but overfishing and disregard for size limits have hurt the population. There are still some good fish there, but hard to find. There's also a decent population of good size bluegill for the young'uns to catch.
Any lakes in the northeast section around or close to I-75 ? I'll be coming down I-71.
