I think right now it all depends on where you are (water temperature wise) on them nesting.

I fished Nolin on Saturday and only caught about 10 keepers, but all females were full of eggs and haven't spawned yet. It is hard to believe they haven't with the water temps in the 60's. The fishing was terrible for us and everyone we talked to. We couldn't figure it out.

The fish I caught Sunday evening (blacks and whites) were in 9 ft of water....

Several females of both species full of eggs..water was 67 degrees at evening..

I think they are staging but not there yet...

The 80+ degree days this week may spark some females to spawn...but the highs this weekend are supposed to be in the 60's...so that may slow it down some...

I fish in northern kentucky at Kincade Lake state park and in the ohio river creeks. I'm just stumped when it comes to spawning. I've heard when the red buds bloom thats when they spawn, but I dont know. Well all I do know is that when they are spawning I have the time of my life. I hope that no one misses out on the fun.

Same situation for me last weekend. Mostly males caught real shallow, the rest were in 7-9 ft. of water yet. I think you are right about staging but not spawning.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

    Wink Kincaid/Ohio River Tribs?

For these areas I would say they will be spawning over the full moon in the next week or two. This coldfront this weekend will hold them back, then if warmer water temps show up, the crappie will be moving shallow to spawn. I too fish these areas but haven't been out yet. I would say not this weekend but next weekend Apr 24 - May 1st, and that following week should be shallow. Let us know how you do.

I cleaned 9 keeper whites and blacks my Dad and I caught late Tuesday longlining in less than 10 FOW. All the females had eggs that were VERY bloody and runny. I would say that if the warm temps hold, it is on.
