I had a great time. If any of yall dont know John he is a great fellow and good fisherman to boot. We met around 7 at scotts creek and after a short ride commenced to catchin' some supper. The bite wasn't as fast as previously but was consistent all night long. We caught probably around 60-70 all together with plenty dinks thrown in the mix. We also caught some very nice fish as well with John catching the biggest and quite a few 12-13 inchers in between us, lots of 9-10 inchers. A quite a few fish got deep hooked and we had to keep a few small ones but I hate wasting a fish thats gonna die anyways. Prolly kept around 40-45 fish and split them at the end. We caught em' in 30-35 ft of water tightlining from 5-15 ft. Minnows mainly, on main lake structure. Lake was in great shape and hardly a soul on the water. Next time im gonna have to have john take me to one of his honey holes where the REAL SLABS live! I had fun and have the makings of a nice meal to boot! We will have to do it again John.!:D

That looks like a good night to me. I have only fished Cave Run a couple times in my life. And that was for the green carp(We didn't do any good) back years ago. It looks like I should go back and try it again. It would be a little over an hours drive for me. Hard to drive that far when I can look out the window in front of me and see the Ohio river. But, you won't catch anything like that mess in the creeks right now. (At least I can't) Great Job Guys!!!

    Thumbs up Outstanding, boys ...

Ya'll done went and done yourselves proud. Glad to see the Cave still has some Slabs in it for the taking.

    Just out of curiosity :

You said "minnows mainly" .... does that mean you used some "other" bait to catch some of these fish
Is that fog, making the pics blurry, or flash kickback from the wet fish & white cooler ?? :p
Those fish that got deep hooked ... were they aggressive bites, or did they just piddle around with the bait until you got tired of waiting and set the hook ??
Did you guys tie up or anchor ?
How many spots did you fish, and at what time did you head back to the ramp ?

Thanks for the great report & pics ... ya done good !!

Hey crappiepappy, answer some of your questions. There was a few caught tightlinning jigs but the jig bite wasn't on too good most of them came on the minnows, anchor up same spot, the deep hooked ones very agressive, started back at ramp, around 3 Am. Threating to rain all night, finally started a little on the way in and the fog started to raise. The camera probally had a combination of fog and by being in the cooler, this would be a plastic cooler with a side departman, might got a little chill on it. . Anyway we had a great time.:D

    Wink Thanks Littlejohn ...

    That's kinda what I expected.

I've fished Cave Run Lake since it was impounded. Used to Bass fish it alot, and mostly at night. Can't tell you how many times I've been fogged in, while out there :p
Caught some nice sized LM/SM Bass from there, decent sized Crappie, and several Muskies. I even ate one of the Muskies that a friend of mine caught from there ... wasn't impressed ... so I went back to eating Bass & Crappie. Gave up eating Bass, back when I got more serious about Crappie fishing & less serious about Bass fishing :D

    Hey,

Sorry, just now was able to sit back down at a computer since the trip. Pappy, When I nightfish usually after setting up and anchoring on a spot I wont move unless NO bait is around. The last three trimes ive been out including with John the last I have stayed in one spot anchored up until finished fishing or getting a nice limit, which ever comes first and depending on how long you wanna stay out. I hardly ever try jigs cause they bite minnows so well in the summer when lots of similar sized bait is around, john tries jigs some and catches them tho. The structure was actually not much, just far off some main lake points. The depth is the ticked cuz 30-40 ft is your best bet in the summer. Hope I can get back out soon, almost eaten those fillets from the last trip!! By the way creekboy, wont be long tho until the river gets awesome again then thats where Ill be till winter probably! Later yall.

    Nate
