    Default Hear we go again

This was copied from KDWPT web page "B2551 -- This bill would raise the cap on the fee for registration of motorized or sail-propelled vessels. The current fee is $30 for three years, which is the maximum allowed by law. Raising the cap would allow future increases if deemed necessary in budget planning. The department requested introduction of this bill. This bill has a hearing scheduled for February 8, 2012, 9 a.m., Docking Room 783."

More money out of our pockets.

One nice thing going on there is a bill out there that will allow boats to be assessed at a lower rate so the tax on them will be lowered, that would be great.

    Default kdwp-T

This was a response from a friend when I told him about the recent changes.
"Did you see where they added Tourism to KS Parks and Wildlife. That's just dumb axx stupid. You know where all the fish and game money will go now."
I wonder if smaller government means grouping all the agencies together?
I wrote my congressmen on tax assessment for watercraft (HCR5017). Guess I'll be contacting them again. I would be ok with all the money grubbing if I was assured it would improve fishing and hunting in Kansas, but if govt. stays true to form they will hire more paper pushers so the managers can get upgraded. Seems odd since the T has been added the dept. is way short on money.
Write your congressmen and remember when you vote.

Yes remember them when you vote, if they want to keep taxing and spending then throw them out.

So.... Here comes a really unpopular post...

    Just kidding.

Honestly, going back to Imajigger2's previous comments about transparency, I would really like to know what we actually GET for the $30.00 registration fee. Where does that money go? As far as I can tell, it gets you a sticker and the KDWPT forwards the registration information to your county of residence so they can stick you for property taxes. I guess you also get the reminder card around 3 years later when the renewal is due. I don't feel like paying more than $30.00 for those services...:o

Isn't the $30.00 pretty much just a "record keeping" fee? They don't actually DO anything with that money, do they?

On the other hand... If the registration money goes into the same pool as the fishing license money, then I would tend to be more supportive of an increase in the registration fee compared to a change in the license fee/policy. After all, pleasure boats, ski boats, and jet skis have to pay to register their boats just like fishing boats do.

I guess I would be curious what the registration fee is used for.
