I have found a system that works for me. Has taken me a long time to get here though. My wife watches our budget and spending close as a miser. If I need anything and buy it she chastises me for it. If I ask first she says, "now do you have to get that or can you live with out it." Loaded question so anything I say is not good. If I want anything, I casually come in out of the shop, make a cup of coffee and say in my conversation to the wife, "I was trying to do something but don't have exactly what I need." She asks what I was doing and what I need. I tell her and so far she has decided to get it for me and immediately, not sometime later. Win-Win.

This story reminds me of the time my lifelong friend ordered some floats. He thought he was ordering one of every kind of size and style. He was going to mount them on a display board. This was for a constant customers request for special type floats. Few of them could describe exactly what they wanted.

I happened to be over at his place when this small ? order came in. We were standing ouside and this semi rig parked in front of his house. The truck driver asked my pals name got it and then started off loading these HUGE boxes on his front lawn. My friend asked where did this come from. Truck driver replied with name of supplier. Meanwhile I open one of the smaller ( still big ) boxes. Stuffed to the gills of display boxes of Carlisle wooden bobbers.

Friend is in state of shock , I go into his shop and get catalog of supplier. Turned to bobber pages and at bottom of page in big bold lettering. ITEMS IN GROSS LOTS ONLY.

This was back in the late 70's he still has some ( thankfully few ) of this ancient order left. I think his original skin color took two months to return to normal. It also really put a crimp in his stocking SKU budget for his store for quite awhile. One good thing though if I needed a certain kind of float I knew exactly where to go.

    CAUTION !!!

Somebody once wrote "I hope that when I die my wife doesn't sell all my fishing tackle for what I told her I paid for it".

The same can be true of tying materials and tools.

Absolutely and that is one of my troubles with all my health issues I even started marking some of my things, like capes for fly tying. I have got to do all the rest as I have way too much to just let her sell it at some darn garage sale.

I buy from Hareline about every month so not new here. I doubt you buy from Wapsi though as that takes a store front with bricks and morter and I have not see you talk about that. I have ordered about $500 to $600 a month for the last year and a half. Actually that is just on the credit card and my jig heads and Danville Chenille I pay for with a check, What is with that?
