Skip,
As always thank you for the information.
On the subject of "Action" is there a video, thread, article or something that demonstrates or explains the different types of "action" produced by different tail materials?
In all the videos that I have watched, especially when dealing with "V" cut feathers I notice that they are always tied to the bottom of the hook. I was wondering if any information is out there that compares the "action" of various tails based upon where on the hook it is tied? I guess what I am getting at, does a tail material have a significant different tail "action" based upon where on the hook it is tied? Bottom of hook say compared to the side of the hook.
Sorry for all the questions. Unfortunately I can not maintain my family reputation as "A storehouse of worthless knowledge" without them. LOL.

Crazy Angler " Robert " and I had a discussion on tail action a half year back or so. As he sells the material for most of the jigs that most of us tie he stated that in the spring, Summer, and Fall it is mostly Marabou. But in the winter it is all kip tail. I have chosen to take a way different path and it has work out well for me. Gadwall flank feathers. On my gray ghost or other Minnow/ Shad patterns I have been using nothing but. I have found out that using it and a bit of red of some kind in the tail that it will increase my catch. Remember I am a meat fisherman and use them to feed my family for they have to work or forget the pattern. I am not in this for sport but for food. When you depend on mother nature for your food supply you get good quick or go home.
I will say that the patterns will vary from lake to lake. Some will like a little red others pink or may be green. Here on Caddo it has to have red or it is not going to do that well. This is why I have stated in the past and say to all the young and new tiers that they need to make a study of any one pattern and see which of the ones they tie works the best.
Nice work on your ties now fish them and see what works and what don't. Don't be discouraged if you don't have instant success it will come. Remember you have to untangle more than a few skeins of chenille before you become good.
Redman
Red you should try one of my favorite personal tails. I love using my Holo flash in Silver or Gold, but on my little Roadrunners I add one Holo Red strip between the side strips. This is awesome and when you see it in the sun coming through the water, it's remarkable! Of course that is using marabou.
I agree with Redman on the added red. Last year I tied a couple of the gray multi V tails and black chenille bodies that I use a lot of, except I tied in one or two V's of red in a few. Fishing 2 rods, one with red and one without, the reds did better. My test days were tough conditions but the results stand for themselves. I regularly use a piece or two of red flash in lots of my ties.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
I like to make a few wraps of red thread behind the head on my jigs, kinda simulates a gill plate.
