Nice looking jigs. You will learn where to place the flash on the jig for it the end up where you want it to. Good work on the jigs.

the stand is a little clamp that was in a box of old fly tyeing materials my mother gave me from when her and her husband tied flys, I dont know what its actualy used for but it fits in the hook eye and holds them up.

The clamp is an electronic test lead. I have several of them that is use to hold flies and jigs.

Those are very good for a first tie. A rotating vise will allow you to see your jig from all angles. I too like a little shorter tail for those short strikes. When using marabou be sure to put a good layer of flat waxed nylon thread on the hook before adding marabou. Do not use the stem but rather strip the feathers away from the stem before adding them. Very nice for your first efforts.

Big Mike do not let the off center flash bother you. I tie almost everything off center. That may be the most productive jig yet. If anyone is interested I can do a post on the effectiveness of irregular patterns.

I wouldn't worry about the flash material, but if it really bothers you look up pinch wrap in fly tying and then you'll get the flash even on both sides. It's basically holding the material, bringing the thread up inside your fingers, then down the other side and pulling straight down to lock the material in place

Here's a video on it and it's in about the 1:40 mark YouTube - Beginner Fly Tying Tips - Part 2: Three Essential Techniques Every Fly Tier Needs to Know
