Tails on Inline Spinners
I want to make some spinners for trout fishing, the only real problem that I am having is getting a tail of either fur or feather on above the hook. How do you hold it in place so that when you tie it on it stays nice and even with the treble hook? ANY advice on making the lures is welcome, but especially the adding of the tails.
Thanks in advance!

The trebles are really a PITA to tie without getting stabbed LOL. Squirrel and bucktail are the two biggest ones because they're slippery. You need to get a good thread base and learn the pinch wrap, hold the material, thread inside the edges of the fingers and then pull straight down.
You'll learn how much pressure you can force on them after a few. I usually put a small amount in between the hook sections and then try to build a nice head. Using hackle feather tails is easier, but the squirrel and kip tail look better.
It's all about practice, practice!!! Here's one Download Real Pro's SportFishing's Lure Making Tip Sheets it covers the whole spinner but the part you want is on the tyeing the treble hook. You'll need Adobe Reader to view it.
Here's one from right here on crappie.com

You can also search you tube.
These should get you started. I make a lot of spinners if you need any additional help just let me know.

Thanks a lot. This will certainly help me out! I will have to spend some time practicing the technique. Now at least I have a place to start! Many, many thanks. If i have more questions I will let you know!

We do try to be helpful around here.
Tying the hair tails will be like anything else you do, the more you do it the better you will become at it.
When fishing inline spinners, I use the Roostertail brand that has the hair in front of the treble tied to the spinner shaft just above the loop for the hook. You may want to buy one and look at it, or maybe even dissect it (unwind the thread holding the hair) and see how they do it.
The Roostertail brand spinners are very effective and I've caught 1,000's of fish on them. Mepps brand are similar but have the hair tied to the hook instead of the wire, they're also twice the price of the Roostertail and much less effective for me.

Maybe that is what i like better about Rooser Tails, I have a bunch of those and the Mepps, but just like the Rooser's better.
My mistake here was that I kept putting the feather on the hook, then tying it, I need to put a layer of thread down first then the feather/fur.
I like to build fishing poles, so I have a bunch of different colors of thread to try different things with.
