Anyone have luck on Patoka?

Nice to know bluedrifter. Hope you have excellent luck and catch a bunch this spring and year fishing as I know you will. Keep the great reports coming as I will to. Cabin fever has kicked in here and waiting on ice out to happen.

I always give up on walleye about mid june may is usually best

I know a guy that PULLS jigging raps in the summer and does really good.

I went up there in the ice a few years back and it was a little wild made sure I stayed close to the bank. I was in an old fishing boat. I actually caught a few fish.

I too cannot agree with the management practices of our state. I don't think we can blame it all on the DNR though or on fishing preassure when it comes to the downhill spiral of the bluegill at Patoka. Shad was introduced to Patoka supposedly by those that knew more than the DNR. The shad do very well at Patoka and compete for the same food that small crappie and bluegill compete for. Perhaps the cold winter will knock the shad back for a few years with a big winter kill.

Lots of truth, there. I just saw where West Boggs is going to drain the lake and kill everything again, on account of the gizzard shad. This is now 3 times in 30 years, not a good average. Obviously, at 8800 acres, this isn't something that can be done at Patoka. It's going to be an unfortunate fact that we really can't do much about. You can add all the predators you want, but you can't make them eat what we want them to. I think a school of stripers will pound a school of small crappie, perhaps quicker than a pod of shad.
