How do you know bass fisherman put the shad in these lakes? Couldn't it as easily been a live bait fisherman, who dumped their bait bucket? Some could bring bait caught somewhere else, and then release them.

we have all heard the storys for 25 years it might not be them but many people told me it was
Locals....not clubs,,or anything like that...local fishermen. But,,they are die hard bass men.
Until I'm shown proof, I'm not blaming anyone. I think it's ridiculous to finger a group on assumptions. Although someone dumping their live bait seems more likely , because it's inadvertently done. But it doesn't really matter who. Why not fish somewhere else?
Well when you hear stories of bass fisherman bragging about catching the Pike in Patoka slashing their gills and throwing them back in the water can you really put it past them to stock shad? I have heard DNR personnel blame bass fisherman but I don't know if anyone was actually prosecuted for it.
gone_fishing, you hit Patoka yet?
I've heard and seen plenty of non bass fisherman kill native "rough" fish, because they are misinformed. So I'm still not going to pin it on one particular group. Besides, the pike were stocked and doomed to fail.
The northern pike that was stocked in Patoka were sterilized and not going to reproduce,,but fun to catch and eat while they were there. I caught them up to 8lbs before they were gone. Northern Pike were caught the same points and structure as the Smallmouth Bass were found. Northerns did upset a lot of bass fishermen due to the now,,,lack of smallies. But,,blame their demise on the lake, its growth and change, and the fact,,it just wasn't a smallmouth lake. As far as west boggs, maybe you need to live down here around these people understanding that right now, a lot of people are very upset with DNR draining and killing out the lake and restocking for the 3rd time. I enjoyed fishing the lake when I was affiliated with a Bass Club myself years ago, but now,,no need for me to "pay anymore than I have to",, to play...so I don't fish west boggs even tho I do now live transplanted about 15 miles as the crow flies from west boggs. I also live 40 from Patoka, 40 from Monroe, and 30 from Dogwood. I all, but guarantee you,,that lake will have shad back in it as soon as DNR stocks it with their fingerlings, just by knowing the ill sentiment that is floating around now, as the locals that are super upset with DNR and their plans. Just the way it is,,and unfortunately DNR is banging their heads against a brick wall when it comes to Martin Co. I personally back all the moves that DNR makes as its our money that is footing the bill and only time will tell how everything turns out. Why don't we just all sit back and just wait and see what happening in about 5 yrs or so? But,,I am willingly to making a bet, that in 5 yrs or so, nothing has changed with what DNR is trying to do. Fishing will be awesome in a few years for a while anyhow on West Boggs, and who knows, if I am still kicking around then,,might have to pay and fish it.![]()
